Reporting to the VP of Engineering, the Lead Aerospace Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, testing and implementation of Enduralock’s satellite docking solution that can provide for mechanical, power/data transfer, and fluid transfer capabilities, and robotic fastener assembly solution for In-Space Servicing, Assembly, and Manufacturing (ISAM) operations. Enduralock’s proprietary ISAM technologies are aimed at accelerating assembly times, increasing mission readiness, and reducing operations costs.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering with minimum 8 years of relevant experience. Ph.D. is not required, but beneficial.
  • Experience with in-space servicing, assembly, and manufacturing (ISAM) operations and the challenges associated with space infrastructure along with know-how on launch vehicle integration processes and launch site operations.
  • Proven experience in the design, development, and launch of CubeSats and small satellites.
  • Strong knowledge of satellite systems such as payloads, power systems, communication systems, and onboard computers.
  • Proficiency in systems engineering methodologies, manufacturing processes, and design verification/validation.
  • Solid understanding of relevant industry standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage resources, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Problem-solving mindset, with the ability to analyze complex technical challenges and propose innovative solutions.
  • Must be able to work on U.S Government Contracts and projects subject to ITAR.
  • Ability to re-locate to Kansas City area is strongly preferred.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Research and Development of Enduralock’s docking mechanism and automated fastener assembly system for ISAM missions.
  • Develop and refine satellite system architectures, including power systems, communication systems, and onboard computer systems with emphasis on successfully completing refueling, transportation, servicing, and debris mitigation missions.
  • Work along with a team of engineers to design, develop, and launch CubeSats and small satellites, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budget constraints.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers and electrical engineers (potentially software engineers, RPO, GNC and quality assurance personnel) to enable concurrent engineering approaches to address complex problems to ensure overall system compatibility.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and trade-off analyses to identify optimal design solutions, considering factors such as mission objectives, launch vehicle constraints, and cost-efficiency.
  • Document and develop technical specifications, test procedures, and test reports to ensure traceability and compliance with relevant standards.
  • Collaborate and coordinate to perform system level functional tests and qualification tests to validate mechanical strength, power/data transfer, and fluid transfer capability as needed.
  • Manage and mitigate technical risks throughout the satellite development process.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to other engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Write technical proposals for government contracts including development of work plans and milestone schedules for new projects.
